Bye-Bye Bozo!

Well, I guess it's official. My baby, who was born with a few sprigs of hair that quickly fell out and didn't come back for about 2 years, finally got her first haircut! She's almost 3 1/2 now and has the most beautiful ringlet curls that she totally hates. I guess we all want what we can't have, even at 3 years old. She has wanted "flat" or straight hair for the past 6 months or so, and unfortunately has developed quite a complex about wanting to have "flat hair". It's so sad to hear that from her, because I know she has the rest of her life to be unhappy with her hair, looks, body, etc. and I guess I mistakenly believed the negative self-image wouldn't start until she was at least 5 years old! She was so excited about having her hair washed in the big sink, trimmed, and then I promised her that Meagan would "flat" or straighten her hair when the cut was finished. She was a little worried about the cut part, but like the big girl she is, decided to suck it up for the ultimate reward of straight hair for 24 hours. She did so well! Meagan discovered her hair was much longer on one side, and thankfully was able to even up the curls and cut off those frizzy baby hair ends that gave her that "Bozo the Clown" look very frequently.

Getting her hair washed in the "big girl sink"

All done with the cut...They can't call her Bozo now, bless her heart!

Not a big fan of the blowdrying...the lengths we go to for beauty!

Here's my big girl with her "Flat hair" She looks so.much.older. this way :'(

As an added treat, she even got her nails & toenails painted while Mommy got a haircut, too!
We had such a great girly day at the salon! She was so excited about everything she did & was completely obsessed with her new haircut! It was so precious, and I'm glad to have had the experience with her. I'm not quite as happy about my baby turning into such a big girl so quickly though, it's amazing how fast she's growing up!

Silence is golden

The greatest thing happened today! I took my child to spend some "quality time" with her grandparents in Tennessee for a couple of days. The hubby & I went to dinner alone & didn't have to feed, wipe the hands of, or act as personal entertainment/jungle gym for anyone else throughout the entire meal! It's SO QUIET in the house I'm not sure what to do with myself. I haven't heard anyone scream or cry or yell "NO!" in almost 24 hours. Do I miss my baby, yes of course! I'll miss her like crazy & will be really excited to see her again on Sunday. That feeling, however will not keep me from letting her enjoy time away from us and spend a few days getting spoiled beyond belief. I believe it's healthy to be apart a little bit & I love that she's totally fine doing it. Hey, she's not stupid, she knows how to work the system & get whatever she wants out of everyone she comes in contact with (except Mommy). Time alone with Grandparents is golden for her because she knows exactly what she can do the entire time...anything she wants!

Confessions of a Semi-Reformed Shopaholic

My husband & I decided at the first of the year to get hard-core Dave Ramsey attack your debt crazy. We've made huge strides & have changed our lifestyle in ways I never would have imagined. Some of these things are good, I mean, I guess I don't HAVE to have a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato every day to survive (but it sure makes my life a little happier)! Some of the changes, however, are just down right hard! Shopping and eating out were once a part of our lives that I took for granted. Now they're just a part of my past, broke life that I'm having to sit on the outside and mourn the loss of. Every so often I'll drive by Olive Garden & actually hear the restaurant beckoning to me. Does that make me crazy?!
Anyway, I have been putting away a little money each week (yes, in my envelopes for those of you familiar with Dave Ramsey...I told you, we're hard core) for clothes. Well, let me rephrase that, clothes for my daughter. Mommy & Daddy are just out of luck when it comes to new clothing since we don't outgrow clothes at the speed of light like our child. So, I went shopping tonight and let me tell you it was glorious! Now, the euphoria is quickly squashed by the little voice in my head that says "put that back, get the stuff that's on sale...slowly back away". I actually went into 2 stores that had massive amounts of adorable children's clothes today & didn't buy anything. This is huge progress for me!!! I kind of had to run, not walk, out of one store, but it feels good to know that I can do it. Then I got into my car & drove to another store & purchased clothes that were less expensive, and still cute. Not as cute, don't get me wrong I'm not in denial, but cute none the less!
So, here's hope that it can be done...baby steps, right?

My Family

Here we are. My family...My husband is wonderful & puts up with way more than a person probably should have to endure (and he still loves me). My daughter, well, she's 3 so we're trying not to go crazy on a daily basis! She's the best thing that ever happened to me, but MAN am I ever paying for any attitude I may have accidentally directed at another human being throughout my entire lifetime! She's just beautiful, isn't she?

I said it would never happen!

Well, I told myself (and countless others) I would never have a blog. Obviously, I lied...not intentionally, but still, a lie. I decided to start my own blog because I am addicted to reading other people's blogs. Whether I know them in "real life" or not, I am a total blog addict. There, I said it. It's true, now I'm out of the closet!
I decided it was only fair to give anyone who cares a glimpse into my life as well.
I also got really tired of reading the "my child is so wonderful", "You only wish your life was as wonderful as mine" or "I am the best Mommy in the world" BS and thought I could give a realistic look at the ins and outs of daily life (at least my life, maybe yours is perfect, who am I to judge?). My life consists of being a wife, mommy and full-time employee, in case you were wondering. So, we'll see how far I go with this blog thing!
